Connecting you with Australian culture online
In earlier Guides, you've learnt that the Web is a tool you can make use of in your business. To do that effectively, you need to understand how it works.
You need to know:
In coming years, the numbers of Internet users will continue to increase dramatically. Business use of the Web will surge. Access will become faster and easier. And a lot more of people's normal daily activities like shopping and banking will be done on the Web - already
GreenGrocer.com.au(1) and
Woolworths(2) provide these services in Sydney, Canberra and Melbourne. The major banks - like the
Commonwealth(3) and
Westpac(4)- provide Internet banking services. You can buy tickets to cultural performances online at
Ticketek(5), and buy CDs, videos, DVDs and books from the
ABC Shop(6).
Cultural workers and cultural organisations must be a part of this new medium if they are to benefit from it. Many already are. When you have an opportunity, look at what some cultural organisations are doing with their websites, and take inspiration from their endeavours. Then use some imagination to push your site a step further.
There is more information about electronic commerce in a later screen of this Guide(7).
The Web can be of enormous benefit to your cultural organisation.
