Your ISP connection costs
Once you have an Internet connection there are ongoing costs.
- The usual monthly fee for the ISP or cost per hour depending on your access plan.
- Telephone charges.
Note: Although these will probably be at local call rates, if you are dialling in twice a day these calls can add $15 or more a month to your telephone bill. - The cost of an additional telephone line if necessary.
- If your ISP is also hosting your website there are fees for its maintenance and storage. This can range from tens to hundreds of dollars each month depending on the size and popularity of your site.
Because of these recurring costs, it is important to shop around when you choose your ISP. Also, check for hidden costs. For example, if your site becomes very popular, some ISPs charge for the extra traffic.
